An elegant George III style antique mantle finely carved in white Statuary marble with Sienna marble side panels & ingrounds and Sienna fluted frieze panels. The central plaque with Aesop's fable,"The Fox, the Stork and the Water Pitcher ", these have been recently carved, over fluted jambs.

A well carved antique stone pediment, carved in the Baroque manner, in the form of a plain oval cartouche under a crown, draped with abundant laurel swags supported on a scrolled cornucopia of fruit. The cartouche bears an inscription which reads 'Statuary and Mason' and this could be removed and re-carved.

A large bronze Greek Revival style five light chandelier the circlet decorated with lion and panther masks and with eternity knots in the chains. The central hanging drum has a circular frieze of repoussé decorated figures derived from the relief carving of horsemen on the west frieze of the Parthenon at the Acropolis, Athens, Greece.
Mid 19th century.

Notes: The original frieze was created circa 438-432 BC and forms part of the Elgin marbles in the British Museum, London. Thomas Bruce, the 7th Earl of Elgin gained permission from the Ottoman rulers of Greece to remove some of the sculptures from the Parthenon while serving as the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1799 to 1803. The marbles were purchased by the then British Government in 1816 to both great acclaim & some controversy and placed in the British Museum.

A small antique bronze stags head wall bracket after Christophe Fratin, the horseshoe shaped platform with an underside cast with oak sprigs and acorns, above the stag’s head with six-point antlers, the underside inscribed ‘FRATIN’.

A pair of finely carved volute shaped antique Italian wall fountains in pink Verona marble, embellished with extensive fishscale carving and featuring large and handsome lion head masks. Italian late 18th century.

Notes: There is damage to the mouth of one of the left hand lion head mask and to the fishscale carving on the right hand piece.

BILLINGSGATE FISH MARKET, RIVERSIDE, CITY OF LONDON.
A very large and heavy cast iron arched grill depicting the arms of the City of London and the Fishmongers Livery Company, once a feature of the Lower Thames Street elevation of the Old Billingsgate Fish Market which fronts onto the River Thames between London & Tower Bridges close to The Tower of London, one of the three castings, removed during the 1960s/70s, from the central arches of the entrance to the arcade.
Designed by Sir Horace Jones in 1877 & made by Cottam & Willmore, London circa 1877.

Notes:
The first Billingsgate Market building was constructed on Lower Thames Street in 1850 by the builder John Jay, and the fish market was moved off the streets into its new riverside building. This was demolished in around 1873 and replaced by the arcaded market hall designed by City architect Horace Jones and built by John Mowlem & Co. in 1875, the building that still stands on the site today. Now used as an events venue, such as for the 2004 MTV tribute for 'The Cure', it remains a major London landmark and a notable Grade II listed building.

A tall 19th century walnut chimneypiece and overmantel in the French Renaissance Revival manner. The panelled overmantel shown without a painting or tapestry in the space provided. The upper frieze fluted at the front and the sides, with rich acanthus floral carving on the corners, above the lower panelled frieze supported on large full round, tapering, stop fluted columns. A historic propeller from the Le Rhone Rotary engine of an Avro 504 airplane.This fine early, large laminated, mahogany and oak propeller, made around 1919 bears identification stamps indicating its British Air Ministry registration, and technical specifications. The particular 110 HP LE RHONE engine was unusual in that the entire circular cylinder block rotated around the crankshaft, in contrast to RADIAL and in-line engines when it was the crankshaft that rotated.

The AVRO 504K was a fighter bomber aeroplane used by the RAF in the First World War. 10,000 were built from the first flight in 1913 to 1932 making it the most produced plane from WW1. It was later flown by 40 air forces world wide. From a private collection of early aeroplane propellers.

A Large 1920 laminated polished walnut, broad two bladed aircraft propeller. Each blade has a brass cap to the tip, the leading edge pinned with scallop decorative brass protective strip, the boss stamped OCM No. 73 OCM over the date 20.6.927, further stamped CA73 ASSO 500 Diam 295 PAS 172 194 DIS 014, and finished in deep green over perhaps red with white banding, paint surface now aged with crackle finish. From a private collection of early aeroplane propellers.
