A sophisticated Scottish Regency architectural library chimneypiece in Kilkenny black marble, strikingly in the manner of Sir John Soane, 1753-1837.
Of simple architectural form with the Obelisk seated on the moulded pediment & a plain shield underneath, with square flat-topped jambs either side. A pair of small classical busts would normally be placed on these plinths.
Scottish ca 1810 . Awaits re polishing..
Provenance : A Regency townhouse in Linlithgow ,the original capital of Scotland and birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots .
