A beautiful, elegant and rare antique French Empire fire screen with a pair of entwined serpents forming the handle. The brass frame, with finely detailed and delicate egg and dart and starburst edging, holds a mesh screen with a pair of applied ormolu laurel wreaths above a panel embellished with ormolu cornucopia and foliate fronds. The whole supported on neat foliate applied feet. With stamp Bouhon Fres, for manufacturer Bouhon Frères on the back. French, early to mid 19th century.

The manufacturer Bouhon Frères also operated under the name Bouhon et Cie, specialising in bronze-decorated fireplaces and fitting. They exhibited at the 1878 and 1900 Paris Exposition Universelle.
