A very pair of large gilt bronze vase table lamps, taking the form of the Townley Vase. The vases are modelled on a krater, a Greek vessel used for mixing water and wine. Each vase has elegantly scrolling bifurcated gilt handles, and the body of the vases are cast in high relief and depict a bacchanalian procession, featuring Bacchus on Ariadne. The vases are mounted on Belgian black marble pedestal bases, on which are mounted masks of a woman. English, c.1900.

Notes: The Townley Vase is a large Roman marble vase after a Greek original. The vase, dating from the 2nd century, was discovered in 1773 by Gavin Hamilton, a Scottish Antiquarian. Its name comes from the English collector Charles Townley, who purchased the vase after its discovery. After his death, the vase was brought to its final home, the British Museum.

A pair of stunning floor standing parcel gilt torchères in the manner of Robert Adam. The neoclassical form is exemplified by the slender sweeping legs which support the urn shaped faux oil reservoir on which the shades rest. The legs are mounted on a faux griotte marble platform base.
    English, c.1920.

Provenance: Wynn House, St James's, London. Final images shows them in situ. Wynn House was designed by Robert Adam for Sir Watkin William Wynn, 4th Baronet, a wealthy landowner, politician and patron of the arts. Wynn house was once something of a country residence, and Sir Watkin was even known to keep a cow in St James's Park.

Notes: Can be supplied with torchère light shades, or with the original bowl shaped shades.

A lovely pair of Booth’s Silicone China Scale Blue table lamps. Hand painted in the manner of 18th century Worcester, these are decorated with a profusion of gilt, on a cobalt blue fishscale ground. The cartouches are painted with exotic birds - presumably pheasants - and exquisite flowers. Simple Empire style lamp shades would suit these lamps very well.
    English, circa 1900.

Research: Booths' most highly prized pattern is Scale Blue, an early C20th copy of the famous Worcester blue glaze featuring vignettes with exquisitely hand-painted birds and flowers. Now extremely hard to come by, it is much sought after by Booths connoisseurs.
