A large and ornate French cast iron fireback. The subject features an altar dedicated to Cupid, being visited by a woman and her small child, perhaps to ensure his luck in love later in life.
This panel would work well in conjunction with two side panels or as a single fireback.

French, early 19th century.

This fireback was cracked and has been repaired.
