A very decorative, ornately pretty, white painted cast iron Victorian lamp post possibly from a seaside town promenade or pier. The standard, in three sections with a pagoda apron, rises to the swan necked lamp. The base is guarded by four shield bearing dragons reminiscent of those on posts in the City of London. The makers mark ‘Turner and Allen of London’ is on the base.
English circa 1870.
Notes: Turner & Allen were based at 201 Upper Thames Street, London in the mid to late 19th century and were ironwork manufacturers who supplied ‘ lamp pillars, brackets, gas lanterns’ throughout the country.
